Muslim Cleric charged with inciting violence

A Kenyan Muslim cleric has been accused by the US government of giving support to militants in Somalia who has links to al-Qa’ida. He has been charged with inciting last week’s violent protests in Mombasa for the killing of a Muslim cleric, Sheikh Aboud Rogo.

Abubaker Sharif has been allegedly accused of urging protesters to burn down churches and kill police officers who were trying to calm down the violence. The riots have so far led to the death of five people including three police. Mr Sharif said his life is in danger after the Mombasa riots, he said this after he turned himself in at the Mombasa court yesterday.
